What size (type) battery should I put in for a 1971 Chrysler 85hp outboard?

Well it will be about 1.5 litres so a car style battery about 40 AH will be fine ....I always go for the cheapest unsealed car starter battery .easy to maintain ..bolt it down in the hull or vibration will kill it ...you also need good thick starter cables

450CCA is what I use.If you have room put in a second connected by a switch.
That way you always have a hot battery as a backup.
The states uses a different rating 40ah ?? J

no the states does not use different ratings...you have been blagged by the advertisers....

You can have AH (amp Hour ) capacity quoted
RC reserve capacity ( how long it will supply 25 A )
Or CCA cold cranking amps ....thats current at zero F to reduce it to 6v in 1 min

You dont tend to see the AH capacity quoted so much because it can be done over 5 10 or 20 hrs so the figures can be difficult for americans to understand .
RC is the most reliable as they carnt fudge that .
Do you run your boat at zero F ??....they can build a battery to give a high figure in this test which is why they love it .......
