I have a 55lb thrust troling motor that I am looking to buy a 12v deep cycle battery for. I found that I could buy two 85ah batteries for ?60 each, or a 135ah battery for ?150. To me, buying two 85ah batteries and connecting them in parallel seems better as I'd be basicaly then using 170ah for a lot cheaper than buying a single battery.

The two cheaper 85ah batteries are shown on the following links:

And the single more expensive 135ah battery:

The 85ah batteries say they are sealed (suitable for marine) and deep cycle.

My question is, would my assumption that two 85ah batteries be better than the single one correct? They would also weigh less.
What are the pro's and cons?

If anyone can help I'll be very grateful!

Thanks

If you intend to recharge them in parallel then you may have to buy a higher capacity charger. Other than that there are no issues. Trucks, airplanes and trains have used paralleled batteries for years with no major issues. There are battery isolator switches available that have quick disconnects to make it more convenient to separate the batteries.

checking your links it would cost u the same either way, because in actuality you save about 6# on the cost and would have to purchase parallel wiring for the twin option. However I would advise the two over the single, You get more reserve capacity, and extra year warranty, and if one failed short for some reason you still have the chance of some life. and it would be easier to carry the two in two trips than to struggle with the one, well unless u are like the guy where i bought my batteries, he picked up 2 @ 75lb ea. AGM batteries at the same time and carried them to my truck, and with ease too. LOL

I am presently looking at a house bank and using 2 instead of one battery.

just my thoughts

No Fuss :)
