I have a Minnkota Edge trowling motor...what battery do you recommend?

I dont care if you have a preference....preferences come from trial/error experience..I want your opinions.

Marine deep cycle is best but any car battery will do.

Re: Battery for Trowling Motor-recommendations?

I use a Mega-Tron Marine/RV Deep Cycle...I assume any deep cycle marine battery would do...The important thing is that the trolling motor has it's own battery if you plan on using it for extended periods of time...I fish 8 hour tournaments and although the power is noticably lower it's still running at the end (depends on how windy). Hope this helps.

Answer... "it depends".

If you have a larger boat with a battery charging option, or one with a gas-powered main outboard that has charging output your best bet is to run two 6-volt deep cycle batteries wired in series to make 12 volts. Two 6 volts wired in series will perform like three 12 volts wired in parallel.

If you are looking for a portable option go for the largest battery you are willing to lug around, or that will suit your boat. I have a group 27 12 volt on my tin boat that seems to last forever. I have had two group 24 deep cycles that i switched between (one charging while one was fishing) and it seems like i get better use out of a single group 27.

We always use 1 or 2 deep cycle batteries tied together for the trolling motor. I've never had an issue fishing all day with that setup. I have used any number of different deep cycle brands and I think they're all equal in my eyes. I use a separate starting battery for the outboard engine.

I recently picked up the Cabela's AGM 24group battery for my Traxxis and it's been great so far.

As big as you can find, I have 2 deep cycles powering the boat cause I hate running out of power.

Also with 2 if something happens to happens to your start battery you have a backup.

Iuse the biggest ones you can get at Wal-Mart, they seem yo last 3-4 seasons and I don't always charge them right away like you are suppose to.
