I think I read a post a few days ago by rodbolt that said all of the F series yamaha motors sold in the US had a battery isolator built onto the motor for charging house batteries. Am I remembering right or am I mistaken? I have a '05 F115 but don't remember seeing one off hand. I wasn't exactly looking for one either last time I had the cover off. Could someone please clarify this because I would like to know because I might like to keep an extra battery in the boat in the unlikely event my starting battery were to fail. With the isolator, i would be able to keep both batteries charged with the outboard. I appreciate anyone who can help. thanks.

Re: battery isolator on 2005 F115

you remembered correctly.
look in the pan, depending on who rigged it it will be a large red wire(10Ga) with a gray plastic connector that is capped.
if ya cant find it remove the plastic electronics panal cover and trace it from the regulator.
both house and starting battery must have the negative terminals attached to each other with a wire size not smaller than the battery to engine ground,
the isolator lead must be installed with overcurrent protection. its all avalible from yamaha(except the negative cable) so as to be mostly plug and play.
refer to the 05 marine tech or rigging guides for diagrams.

cant get the edit function to work.
CRS I guess.
anyway not all F motors have it, for now unless its an 07 run that we dont know about its only the F115 and larger.
and all V6 2strokes from about 95 up.
