Battery level (position, not charge)

Should a boat battery, just a standard wet cell, sit level? Mine sits at a slight angle due to the surface where the box is mounted on the bottom of the boat. It appears to be a factory set up.

I've done the searches and found nothing related, although I realize I probably missed it.

I don't think it makes much difference within the parameters you described. Think of the angle of your car/truck battery if you park on a hill.

Yeah, I hadn't thought of that. I guess as long as the plates are covered it's OK.

usually you mount it "level" when the boat is at rest as it spends most of its time at that attitude..the surge of acceleration and cornering forces can throw the acid about ..As long as the stoppers are not out it will be fine ..more important to bolt it down to stop vibration killing it ..

Well, that's what I thought it should be-level with the boat at rest. However, this does appear to be the factory box. I will check the hold-down to be sure it's ok. The battery is in a rather inaccessible place, so I'd imagine the previous owner didn't do a lot of maintenance on it, based on other things I've found.

Does your battery actully have liquid in it? Many of the newer batteries have a gel and are sealed. It doesn't matter with them for sure.

I worried about the same thing-but,think about a motorcycle on it's side stand. That battery spends more time way off-level than not.

Thanks, guys. I going to check the acid levels and be sure they are above the plates. I've seen batteries in customer's cars almost at a 45, but most of those cars weren't going much further anyway.
