I was wondering if it matters where the battery is placed on a boat. I'm thinking of placing the battery in the bow of my boat so that I can get another gas tank to fit. Just wondering if it makes any difference.

Hey smitty - happy newyear!

2 things to consider, ventilation and the size of the cable you will need to run back to the motor.

Batteries are usually close to the rear so that cabling is short - how long is your boat?

Batteries give off poisonous and flammable gases - is your bow open?

Aldo

All good stuff from Aldo. And ... it is possible a battery in the bow can take considerable more of a beating/pounding than a battery at the stern. Depending on the size of your boat, battery weight can be an issue, too.

Long battery runs require good cabling. Gonna cost ya!

Mabe better to store a reserve fuel tank up front and keep the battery to the rear.

BTW.... WELCOME BACK ALDO! Hope you had a good time!

Re: BATTERY PLACEMENT

Good advice on the wire size/cable run. Keep in mind that depending on the engine size, length of the boat, etc. you will need to put in wire that is heavier than the original. Even more money.

There have also been a lot of discussions on the board about marine batteries and how batteries on boats take a physical beating. If you put it in the bow you might run into problems in the future.
