I bought a 19 ft center console which i dont have possession of yet. I know this question may sound stupid, but when the outboard is powered up does it have an alternator? Doest it charge the battery? If you use electronics in the boat alot, and have a bilge pump, do you have to worry about your battery dying? If it dies I imagine you can't re-start the motor?

Is that why many have 2 batteries?
Thanks for your patience. Sal

Re: battery question from new guy

Most outboards bigger than 9.9 have alternators, Jerzshaw. The boat electrical system works pretty much like a car.

Many boaters use electronics and/or an electric troller when the main engine is shut down. They will sometimes add a second battery to use when the engine is shut down to be sure they can start up again after a period of battery drain with no recharge.

Good luck. :)

You should expect to charge the batteries occasionally. The charging system is a much lower output than that of a car.I recently added a solar charging board to top off the batteries when not in use.Charlie
