My inverter charges the house batteries.
So, your inverter is converting 12VDC to AC and then converting it back to DC to charge the house batteries?

I do know that more complex RV house battery chargers use the alternator to drive a battery charger which then controls the charge more accurately based on temperature but they still can charge the house batteries at a very high rate. Is that what you are talking about?

I just stopped into BassPro sunday to look around and walked over to the battery stand and there on the stand was a pamphlet describing the "care and maintaince " of deep cycle batteries. In the paper it stated " for greatest number of charge cycles deep cycle batteries should be charged on chargers designed for deep cycle batteries" The use of high output chargers will charge the battery but can lead to fewer charge and discharge cycles over the life of the battery. And then it went on describing how not to let the charge rate drop below 25% etc..etc.. This was almost the same pamphlet my walmart deep cycle came with, I suppose you could just buy the battery without picking up the pamphlet though.

I was not making a mountain out of a molehill either......I just mentioned in my original post that high charge rates "could" lower life expectancy as described by manufacturers recommendations. I never said it would not work, in fact I stated he should have no problem with his 50 hp outboard. Sheesh.........only trying to give the guy a little outlook on recommendations......

I ended up buying a deep cycle battery from Walmart, have great luck with them. Figured I'd give my old starting battery a chance, but it failed and I had to switch it over. New it needed replaced, but figure one at a time and thought I'd see if the other might last a season, since I essentially have a back up. I need to buy a bigger tray and I'll buy a 2nd matching battery. Once, I figure out a dry spot, I'll buy a double bank on board charger. I have a triple bank charger on my fish/ski and it is great. I never think about the batteries!!
