Battery Restorer Liquids?

Anybody have any experience with those "battery restorers"? I saw some at Wal Mart that came in liquid form to pour into the battery. Allegedly cleans the lead cells and makes for a better lead/acid chemical reaction after use. Good product or snake oil?

If it worked, sale of new batteries would cease. It may be of some help with an older battery, but once it has developed a bad cell, its a goner.

Sounds like 'bunk' to me. If you have "dirty" lead in your battery (remember, the lead sits in ACID) then there's a bigger problem.

A done battery is a DONE battery - the old one should be woorth a handy $5 core exchange on a reliable new battery that won't leave you or your loved ones stranded!

CC

I have gotten batteries to still be usable for non starter/heavy load situations by using a additive along with a battery maintainer. It works fine for keeping around when power goes out(have DC lights, connectors for portable TV's etc.) but to put back into situations of a heavier current draw, no.

Do yourself a big favor and think about what you are asking. Then, if you have a questionable boat battery, especially a starting battery, take it out of the boat immediately and switch it with YOUR car battery (not your Wife's). Doing this, you will not be anywhere near as upset when the car fails as compared to being stranded in the boat. And, as a huge added bonus, it will not be your wife cursing you on her cell phone when her car quits!

Sorry, I didn't explain why I was wondering about the stuff. Of course, I would never think about such a thing for my boat or car. I've done stupid things in my lifetime, but not THAT stupid! I bought an old golf cart to use as a utility vehicle on some of my property and was thinking about extending the life of those expensive 6V batteries. Since then, I found a guy that will sell me used ones in good condition for 25 bucks apiece. I think I'll just go that route.

As a follow up, I used the old battery that was once dead but now after a littel restorer and charging with a battery maintainer for running my aquarium pumps during a two day power outage and also a small light at times. Batteries, an inverter, power outage-just priceless.

I have used a pink chemical purchased a few tears back at Harber freght about 6 ounces i believe instructions were to divide equally between # of battery cells and add to each cell then to fully charge battery.. this was recomended by a coworker as I worked as a Deisel Mechanic I Must say this product worked so well I dont believe I would have to buy a new Car Battery ever again.. I havnt been able to find it again since Would find it GREAT if I could find it at Walmart
