Purchased a pontoon and this is how the batters are set up, just radio in boat battery's charge as motor runs. Will this give me more reserve, or is it better to have one for starting, and one battery for radio?

Re: Battery set up good or bad

looks like there was not enoght room to get a large battery so they put 2 batteries in parallel to increase the size. Theres nothing wrong with the way it is except they have given you no back up battery. I personally would install a battery selector switch so if I ran one battery flat I could just switch over to the second battery to get the motor to start. As its a pontoon I wouldn't get to fancy with the wiring and just wire everything to the common post of the battery selector and recharge the batteries as soon as I got home. Another option is to carry a jump pack and just leave the batteries connected as they are.

Thanks I think what the guy was up to he wanted more power for the extra lights he didn't need. I will use one for starting and one for lights port and starboard and white in back only! then charge when low.Thanks.078.jpg079.jpg
