Battery set up?

I am part way through building my centre console which will house 2x12v batterys (above gunnell height) but am unsure if their is a way to wire them with a switch so I can use either battery or will I have to disconnect one and reconnect the other in the event of problems??? I have very little electrical knowledge so please be gentle with me, lol!!!

The simplest method in terms of wiring in my opinion is to use a 1-2-both switch.

The switch can be wired so that the batteries can be used individually or combined for use together in the "Both" position. "Both" is also used to charge the batteries using the engine. How you proceed depends on how you will use the batteries.
