I have a Perko 2 battery switch with alternator field disconnect, and a Force 150 (1992 I think). Do I need to connect the field disconnect up to protect the charging system/rectifier?

Re: Battery Switch Alternator connection Force 150?

Thanks, now for the details... The rectifier shows two yellow AC connections that go directly to the stator. The other connections are the output DC (+) and (-). I'm assuming that I put the Perko alt field disconnect contact terminals in series with one of the AC yellow cables, so that the circuilt from the stator to the rectifier is interrupted if the switch is moved with the engine on. I'm also assuming that it doesn't matter which of the two AC lines I interrupt, being AC. But before I go ahead, I'd sure appreciate some confirmation.

Thanks,

I asked Perko and got the following reply. Now I'm confused. Anyone have a clear picture?

Thanks!

Our alternator field disconnect switch is designed for usage with older model alternators that were produced prior to the late 1980's. Outboard motors have a charging stator as you have properly noted, but we do not have any information from any outboard motor manufacturers on their specific wiring harness details. Generally, outboard motors do not require connection to an alternator field disconnect switch terminal. Contact a qualified marine electrician in your area for their thoughts.
