I just moved my 70 hp evinrude to a center console and it cranked and ran on original boat but not on new one. I had to add wire to make it long enough. It will crank and run fine if you jump it off but not off battery alone. battery has 12.80 volt on multimeter. Any ideas? I think maybe wire need to be a higher AWG because is longer than before but only by 6 feet. thanks

Check all of your connections to make sure they are tight and corrosion free.

solder all your connections. ( solider) (soldier) you know, add melted lead to the wire connections. LOL

Don't solder any connections on boat wireing. Once you solder them they become brittle and break easy from vibration. Of course we all know, there's no vibration on a boat. LOL.

I cleaned the connections. I used a solid 6 gauge to solenoid and butt spliced 8 gauge for the rest still nothing........ It doesnt take much just connect an additional battery to soleniod and it fires right up. I just cant figure it out

All I know is that the longer the wire runs you need a heavier gauge. If you look at your car/truck battery the cable only goes abou 2-3 ft. On some boats it could run longer than that. Have you load tested the battery to make sure that the cranking amps are all there. Battery could be getting weak.

If you have ADDED 6 feet to the battery cables, that may be your entire problem. I moved my battery from the engine compartment to the trunk on an old hot rod i built, and had to go to AWG 2. If you are mixing 6 and 8....and are 6 feet longer with an iffy joint, you may be able to cook an egg on that wire....

Sounds like bad cell in battery. Have it load tested.

Don't use smaller than 4ga. Wire.
Don't use solid wire, use battery cable.
