I have an 18 foot bass boat with a Minn Kota AT42 its a 12 volt motor, I just got a Minn Kota 330sc battery charger. How can I wire it up so that I have one starting battery and two batteries for my trolling motor while maintaining 12v and not harm the charger? If that isn’t possible will it hurt the charger if I only use two banks?

Re: battery wiring

Dave - I am also running a 12 volt with 2 batteries. All you need to do is connect your two trolling batteries paraell ( pos to pos and neg to neg)then connect your trolling motor to one of the batteries. Some people prefer to connect the pos to one battery and the neg to the other but I have never seen any proof that it makes any difference. It's best if the two trolling batteries are both new when you connect them and use a heavy guage jumper wire - tinned if you really want to do it right.

Re: battery wiring

Hook one bank of your charger to the starting battery and the other bank to the trolling motor batteries wired like BR549 described! Thats how I have mine connected, should be fine! I to see no resson to hook the trolling motor wires positive on one battery and negative on the other! Been wrong before, anyone else know the answer to this??

Hasbeen
