Could you be more specific? Do all 6 wires go to same post or is it 3 and 3? Battery should have a + and - on it to indicate which is which. Red is usually used for + on DC and black is often used for -. Are you trying to charge with a charger or are you talking about charging from the motor? If from motor, hook a volt meter and see if it goes above 12V while motor is running. Voltage readout on my Garmin fish finder reads anywhere from 12.5 to 14V while running and I've not had to charge cranking battery at all since Spring.

Good luck,
BL...

My friend put new clamps on and he isn't sure which of the 6 go to positive and which to negative. The motor will not charge the battery since this happened.

I haven't seen the boat but I would think if he had some of the wires backwards it would blow a fuse or something.

Sorry, thats all I know about it.

OK...let's assume he has each set of 6 grouped together correctly, just needs to know which group is which. Do any of the wires follow color coding standards (red = + and black = -)? He may need to trace the wires back to something that is marked + or -. Other than that, I'm not sure what to do. If you swaps them and they were correct but had other problems, who knows what would happen. Perhaps on of the new clamps wasn't put on well enough to make good contact?

Good luck to him,
BL...
