I was in your shoes last week...I went to boat show to buy Glastron MX 175 after researching extensively. Guy told me $14,000 out the door if I got it at the upcoming boat show...when I went, they were sold out and it would take 8-10 weeks to get one in.<br /><br />I liked the Glastron MX 175 the best because I wanted to fish and my wife likes the comfort of open bow boat. Glastron is best for fishing due to simple design, short wrap-around windshield, and not a lot of leather fluff to get messy or damaged. I also liked the Volvo, VEC technology, and better resale. However, I must admit the other boats look better and have more comfort features.<br /><br />I ended up buying a 2005 Sea Pro center console with 90hp outboard for $15,400 (including trailer, tax, etc.). This boat fit my fishing needs and at least had a bench seat in back to satisfy my wife.

I have also been shopping in this market. I've looked at the Bayliner 175 & 175 XT, Maxum 1800, and the Glastron MX-175.<br /><br />I didn't like that the Glastron MX-175 doesn't have the side storage like the Bayliner does, however, much preferred the Sport seating that it has. <br /><br />The Bayliner 175 & XT, basic boat (as are the others), the XT adds quite a bit to the package. I was quite impressed with the quality construction, nice features, a warranty to back it up. Fit and finish were on par with the others.<br /><br />Maxum - Nice boat, similiar features as the others. Did like the overall package, but nothing that stood out for the added price. Still a very nice choice.<br /><br />Ultimately, I've yet to decide. I think the Bayliner 175 XT is probably best suited for my needs at the moment.<br /><br />Regardless, its been an intersting read. I did find it interesting to learn from the dealer, who also sells the Maxum, that they've got 20 Bayliner 175's to sell, and 5 Maxum's. The salesman said <br />they've been very popular.

Yea, the bench seat in Glastron is handy...my old boat has bench seat and I usually keep the cooler on one side and have room for person next to the cooler...With engine in middle, your full-size cooler gets in the way on the floor with this size boat.<br /><br />As far as you leaning towards the Bayliner, I think this is a good boat for the money (you might find you don't have time to boat making a minimal investment a wise choice)...But, I would bet a million bucks you will trade it in within 2 years for a bigger boat or one that fits your boating habits/boating location. When you do this, you might regret not spending a few more bucks to get a better trade in price...I guess it all evens out in the end; pay now or lose later.<br /><br />Also remember that this bayliner has wood...You will learn that wood+water=rot quicker than you might think in a boat.

Well, the Bayliner does have wood wrapped completely in fiberglass, so unless something happens to crack the fiberglass, I think I'll be fine.<br /><br />Any boat I purchase has to (must) fit in my garage. I'm not paying for winter storage. I'm also not looking to buy a bigger vehicle just to pull a 20' boat vs. a 17 or 18ft boat, so weight becomes a factor as well.<br /><br />I've had 2 boats now, both 18ft boats. I've never felt the need for a bigger boat. The lakes aren 't big here, and for a family of 4, I don't need room for 10.<br /><br />Any boat I purchase, will always be in the garage protected from the elements, and anytime its outside it will be covered.<br /><br />I think I've got a pretty good handle on my needs, my only concern on the Bayliner is really centered around the fabric & carpet. Will it hold up long term? Dunno...felt like it was good quality stuff. My old Bayliner (1990 Capri) which is supposed to be junk, held up really really well over 15 years. No tears, etc.<br /><br />I really just think that how well a boat is taken care of is about 90% of how well it'll look long term. So from that perspective I'll be fine as I'm pretty anal about keeping my boats maintained.

i bought a 175 in jan or feb of this year. been out about 7-8 times.<br /><br />very happy with the boat. looked at alot of boats and this was no doubt the best value. <br /><br />my only problem is, i miss my jetski! now i wish i would have gotten a jet boat, but can't afford one.<br /><br />my 175 with a standard 21 pitch al prop easily gets on plane in about 3 seconds and tops out at 47 mph (gps) with me, 200lbs and a full tank of gas.

I am rebuilding the Crap that Bondo is talking about. The Cheap stuff they built it with is the big problem. From Stapling the floors to the stringer to using just enough glass on the floor to keep it in place. The hull and stringers were well built and are still good it just the rest that WAS the issue. I fixed it all. Bondo can bash the Force motor but at least I can work on it and it actually runs well. I don't see anything that I cannot find or get for that motor either at this time. If I want to I will repower in the future but for now VIVA my Bayliner.<br /><br />Please go kick a Bayliner Dealer for me.
