Bayliner 175 vs Capri 1850

Hey there guys

I am shopping for a new boat and I have narrowed it down to a Bayliner. I went to the dealer and I saw a 2003 Bayliner 175 for 8900 with a 135hp. I seen a ad for a 1990 Capri 1850 with 115hp for $8250. I am now needing some opinions/advice which one to buy. The 1850 is older but looks really nice. The 175 as I been researching seems like a base entry level boat. Here is the link below for the Capri 1850

I've got the exact same 1990 Capri...and its a good little boat. You have to make sure the floor is solid and it sounds like it's been repowered from the original Force motor....all good.
However it's nowhere near that kind of money the dealer is asking. I would peg that boat at about $3500-$4500 tops.
For the kind of money he is asking I would look for a Glastron or a Searay...maybe look out of the northern states.

yep....the 1990 is waaaay over priced....way over priced

Ok thanks for the info guys. I guess that eliminates the capri 1850. So I am looking at this one as well

The Bayliner in the link above is from USA. Is there anything I should watch for when buying private? Is that a good price? Thanks

There are a number of items here - http://www.free-legal-document.com/buying-a-boat.html - that you can use to build a check list.

I would be particularly concern with how the boat has been stored for the winter. If it hasn't been properly drained you could have cracks in the block or drive. The floor under the carpet is not encased in fiberglass so if it's spend a lot of time outside and getting wet then the floor may have started to rot.


You can get an idea about pricing from here, but you'll note that it is based on US retail - http://www.boats.com/nada/nada.jsp. With the exchange owners in Canada would have paid more and probably are trying to get more back. I checked on craigslist in Vancouver and the price seems to be inline with the boats out here.

I just can't get used to those CAD boat prices. Wow. Makes the PNW look like a bargain.
