Depends on the maintenance. Seems like a high price, but I don't know AK. I am guessing 48 MPH and 3.6 MPG . . . :)

Guys . . . Ahem . . . no Bayliner bashing please.

Thanks, he said it gets to the lower 50's or so, seemed a little high but thanks for clearing it up. I have a couple of jetboats but they are way too thirsty, and with $7 a gallon gas up here I can hardly afford to go out more then once a week. Anything I should watch out for? Motor is an ok size for the boat?

How does yours do in the bay in light chop? I don't imagine you get bounced around much?

It cuts pretty good, just have to keep it up on plane and going a decent speed. I feel pretty stable with it. Mine goes 45@4900 RPM with a 21 pitch prop. It could use at least a 23 i think and pick up a few more mph. Only thing we dont really like about it is how it leans to one side or the other when your weight is not even, but i think most bowriders do that.

Paid 4900 for mine last August, and didnt get ripped off. boats like that are more expensive here in NC. Plus he's in Alaska, so its def. going to cost more.

Yea I agree on the price, I have not talked with him about the price yet, I wanted to learn a little more about the boat before I got more into the sale.

I rarely put more then 40 hours a month on any boat I use, and only have it in the water from June through September so I don't need much of a boat, just something to dump the kids in and run up and down the bay. My flat bottom jets beat everyone up even in light chop.

Somewhere between 4-5k? You have to remember this is Alaska and not the lower 48, shipping from Washington state to Anchorage is at least 2 grand for a boat.

well..... maybe that changes it, but that's a 3000-3500 boat package here. Dime a dozen stuff.

Re: bayliner capri bowrider?

I have a 94, 16' Bayliner Capri, and quite frankly, I wouldn't buy another one. I realize that the size does make a difference, but it's more about the overall quality of the boat. For the $1k I paid for it, I couldn't have found a better (all-around) boat, but there's not much for $1k. Bayliners (Capris especially) are value boats. Something 'pretty' (an opinion, and not mine) for a low MSRP. Take a look at some other brands in the same price range, and see if you can tell the difference. Would it be possible for you to shop in Washington, and tow it up to AK?

Wow... just browsed the CL ads for boats in the 5k-6600 range in Anchorage. Yikes! Take a vacation to Florida, and trailer something back! It cost me $1500 to drive from Portland to Tampa, with a full trailer, and that includes meals and lodging for 6 days. Add on another, what, $1k to go to AK? That leaves you with about $4k for the boat. There's tons of nicer boats then that Bayliner here, and just about anywhere between you and here. Just glad I don't live in Alalska....

Re: bayliner capri bowrider?

I agree they are on the value side of things, but my old boss has a 20' bayliner, I think its a 96 he bought new. I really liked how it performed in the bay and when we got up the river it drafted shallow relative to the boat. He has only had to replace the drive in the back when he hit a rock pretty bad and had some problems when water got into the fuel lines, but thats about it. I just got pictures of the inside and it is very clean. I'll try to talk him down to at least 6k, if not I will pass based on what I have heard.

That price is pretty high, I would also say 4500-5000k too considering. They do start out as value boats but any boat that's been very well maintained should go up in my opinion. The hulls are fine for most uses and a lot of people (myself included) like how they ride for an older boat. They are lighter boats so can bounce around a bit in a chop like a lot of other boats.

lol.... why ask us feeble nay-sayers..... seems you got it all figured out... Guess it don't matter what you pay for a 2,000 dollar boat, long as you enjoy it and don't tell anyone how much ya paid for it.

Re: bayliner capri bowrider?

I agree with most of the above posts, price is too high...even by Alaskan standards. That should be a $4000-5000 boat, that includes the canvas, trailer and any electronics.

Bayliners are what they are: entry level boats, built and priced accordingly. Some people will tell you horror stories about BL hulls cracking and splitting, but they are just that...horror stories. True most of the cleats, handrails and other bright-work is chrome plated monkey-metal instead of stainless steel; and they are usually fastened with screws instead of being thru bolted with backing plates, but that's what you get in a "value boat".

The good side is that the drive line is a run of the mill Mercrusier or Volvo. Accessories are name brand, just like on more expensive boats, just not the top of the line models. So with good maintenance, they will last just as long as other boats. However: most BL buyers are entry level boaters who are clueless about boat maintenance. When they step up to a bigger boat, their non maintained boat then becomes somebodys new headache within a year or two.

As far as the ride, all Bow Riders are designed for use in protected lakes and rivers, so expect some pounding and a bit of a rough ride when things get rough. That BL that you have your eye on is lighter than most BRs, so it will pound more readily and get tossed around a little easier than most.
