Go here.... http://www.shopmaninc.com/epoxy.html

Where's the pics of the restoration? I like to look at pics of people's resto's. Anyway, i ordered poly resin from them. I have not got it yet but the prices are great there. Good luck.

Well Gentlemen, here she is...she has been sitting here for a few years while I try to decide what to do with her. I am going to drag her out this weekend and get her cleaned up.

Here are some more pics of interest

This is a jet ski I am restoring for my wife...she always wanted a jet ski but I didnt want anything that could hurt her. I stumbled upon this one for free and the guy said it wouldnt run anymore. I new starter, impeller and a hot battery and she runs great. Note the rear rack. No, jet skis did not come with racks..lmao. That is actually a rear rack from a Arctic Cat 250 ATV that I modified and it fits like its made to go there. I can strap a cooler and some folding chairs down and carry two adults on that thing. She loves it. Just got to re-gelcoat it and recover the seat now.

This boat belongs to a customer of mine who up until about 2006 played for the San Diego Chargers. He broke his ankle and has been off for about 2 years. He is now in work up with the Bills...Its really a small world...

Oh, and just in case there are any questions. I do alot of boat repair and installations on the side. So when I say customer, its one of my side job customers...trying to build a client base and hopefully open up a Marine business soon...

OH, and this Force outboard doesnt have tilt or trim, so I want to add one of those CMC stand alone units. Does anyone know if this is the best one or if there is a better unit on the market?

OK, next question...I think Im going to use ACX for the transom, and I guess just marine grade half inch ply for the floor. What is best for the stringers? They look like they are maybe 4 or 5 inches tall at the tallest area. I will be using epoxy, but still working out the details on which wood to use.

Re: Bayliner Capri Restoration...

marine grade is very expencive for the added benefits.....

exterior grade is just fine.....

i used pressure treated ...but it needs to be really dry before it will hold resin.....

the difference in longevety between the two (pt or ext)....might be a year....

so its really up to you....

hit search...

Ok, what is this Peanut Butter I keep reading about? Im assuming its a mixture of Epoxy and some other material to thickin it up for filleting and buildup. What is best to mix with epoxy?

Re: Bayliner Capri Restoration...

i cant really say about the epoxy formula...id imagine its the same....

however...resin.....glass bubbles....cabosil.....fibers of chopped strand matt.....mixes ...mixed...and mixed some more....then when you think youve got it fullt mixed....your half done.......then when it is mixed add hardner....and do it again.....

check out here for tools and mix

Re: Bayliner Capri Restoration...

For epoxy, mix the resin and hardener first. Scrape the sides of your mixing cup with the stirring tool to make sure there's no uncatalyzed resin.

For filler, it depends on what you want... strength, sandability, smoothness in the putty. For strength, use wood flour and milled fibers. Sandability, use glass or phenolic microbubbles. For smoothness, use microbubbles or cabosil (fumed silica).

It's ok to use one or two or more ingredients to get the attributes you want. I personally use wood flour and milled fibers for structural fillets, and microbubbles for fairing. I add cabosil to the wood flour and fibers sometimes to improve its workability.

Don't mix too much at once, remember that the curing resin (poly or epoxy) is going to build up heat which will speed the cure, and including fillers helps it build up heat faster. I have a few "putty sculptures" that hardened before I could use them.
