Re: Bayliner Capri

I know not many like Bayliner boats on this site & I can take the abuse, it's all in good fun. I own an '85 Capri, (my 1st boat), & love it. Can't beat the price & I've always loved the lines on Bayliner boats. I wish I didn't miss the first boat I went after, it was a 1991 Capri & was out-bid last second, cool looking little bowrider. Everybody has there likes & dislikes, but we, (Bayliner guy's), really get it here:D:D. Enjoy the simple fact that your on the water without having to drop major coin. I am.............

Re: Bayliner Capri

I no this isnt the right spot to ask this question because you all have nice pictures up, but you all have Bayliners so here it goes.
I have a 1985 Bayliner Capri, 4 cylinder Volvo Penta with a 270 outdrive, love the boat, but I have a steering issue.
It turns to the left so fast that it will about break your fingers, to turn it back to the right it turns like a truck with no power steering. I have checked everything from the steering back to motor and have found nothing wrong.I have been told to look for a power steering unit for this boat and the problem will go away is that true? Or is there another why to fix this?
Thanks in advance for any help!

I had this happen to me too.... no matter how much you adjust the trim tab it will not change. Sounds more like you need power steering, no feedback steering..... wierd that it pulls left though, as it should want to go right from prop thrust.

Couple possibilities come to mind

1) Fin on bottom of drive is damaged/bent
2) Your trim cylinders are not holding the drive all the way down under power

Going back to OP, didn't you get a title with the boat? Doesn't it list the year?

depending on what state you live in , many boats of that era did not get titled...all that I needed to register the boat below in Pa. , due to its year , was a bill of sale and the registration number on it ( it was previously registered in Pa.)
