I have looked all over the boat and the net and now i need to ask a dumb question The plate on the boat states the following year 84 model Capri LOA 18'8" and so on what I asking is the NADA is listing 1650 16' 1900&1950 19' I have been told there was a 1850 finally the prior reg. states only Capri 18.8 The reason for the ??? is the DMV here in Ct. bases the sales tax price on the NADA value and the $$$ on a 1900 is a $1000.00 higher than the 1950 Now for the fun part the book doesn't list the 18/8 only 19' and the kick is without it they have to go by the bill of sale. Also the thing is it will make finding parts easier.
Thank you

It's a 19xx; they were always a few inches shy of the nominal length in feet as denoted by the first two digits of the model name. Is it an I/O or an outboard? The I/O is a 1950, the outboard a 1900.

I wouldn't worry about finding parts based on model number for a 26-year-old boat. Only the motor stuff will be available anyway; most of the fittings will be generic or no longer available.

Thanks NYBo I had a feeling it's a 1950 and yeah good to know some old rules of thumb still hold 18-0 to18-6 = 18' 18-7 to 19-0 = 19' or at least it used to be.

take a look at this link:

http://www.ct.gov/dmv/cwp/view.asp?a=817&Q=245288

"Boats Purchased from an Individual

A Bill of Sale (form H-31) signed by the seller must be submitted showing amount paid. At the time of registration a six percent Connecticut sales tax will need to be paid based on the purchase price.

If the seller is not the last registered owner, each Bill of Sale (form H-31) must be submitted for each ownership transfer back to the last registered owner.
A completed Application for Vessel Registration and Certificate of Number or Decal (form B-148).

A letter of explanation if the boat was never registered, as well as a completed Ownership Affidavit (form B-203)."

I'm sure you're being told something different by teh DMV, but they seem to indicate is is sale price, not NADA value. Of course, whatever the State Rep. at the DMV tells you is the right answer. So at 6%, even if you went with the higher NADA value, we're talking about a one time tax that is an extra $60.
