hello iboaters, im thinking about buying a 1988 bayliner, great shape and all around real good looking boat, owner has all maintenance records etc etc the problem im having is the serial numbers on the back of the boat arent really to legible to check with the paper work and title, so my question is did bayliner mark these boats with id numbers some were else on these boats, i just wanna make sure this boat is legit before the possibility of buying. thanks don

Well - you've done your research on the type of boat you want and this is the one?

Ayuh,... The Only place I've ever found a Hin on Any boat is at the top starboard aft corner...
Bayliner being an entry-level boat, I doubt has 'em anyplace else...

Normally, I'd say if the HIN # is not legible, walk away from it.
Otherwise, have a cop check it out, and have him certify on paper thats its legit.
An illegible ID # will cause problems in a "safety check" stop by a law enforcement officer. The best it get is waiting an hour for teh state computer to verify the data. Worst it gets? Use your imagination
