Bayliner Kicker Motor

I have a 1988 Bayliner Bass Striker with a 125 force and 20 gal tank.

Here is my question, if I want to add a kicker motor for trolling at reasonable cost. What is the best suited way to do so, can I go with a 2stroke motor that runs a 50-1 oil mix ratio of the main gas tank? If so can the main line be T connected to supply the Aux motor? Or does it need to run a totaly seperate tank.

I like the layout of the boat and am in the middle of restoing it to near new condition. In the future when money permits. looking at replacing the motor and or motors.

Most fishing done is for walleye and into river channels that are less than 3ft of water for northern and the occasional bass is always fun.

Your help and thoughts are appreciated.

Something between 8 and 15 hp would be about right for your boat. Mount it on one of those springloaded transom adapters for the most versatility. Any of those will push your boat to its displacement speed, and that's more than adequate.

You'll be able to troll with it, too.

I strongly urge you to use a portable tank with it's own fuel supply for the kicker. That way, in an emergency caused by something like fuel contamination, you'll still be OK. Just dump the portable tank into your main tank from time to time and refresh the fuel in the portable. 50:1 will be the ratio for any kicker made after 1964.

One thing to do, though, each time you take the boat out, is to fire up the kicker to make sure it's working OK. Lots of boaters never start their kicker, only to find it not working when they need it.
