Bayliner Rendezvous with Force 150hp

I am new to the forum and need some help and guidence. I am looking at purchasing a 1998 26' Bayliner Rendezvous. It has a 1993 150hp Force. It was a trade in at a local Marina. They are asking $8,500 including the trailer.

Questions:

1.) I am concerened about the reliability and serviceability of the 1993 Force 150hp engine, should I be ?

2.) The boat weighs 4300 lbs, I realize the engine is undersized and at some point I will need to replace the motor. Can I relace it EASILY with
a 200 hp? What would be involved and at what cost? The throttle control is a Quick Silver.

Yes, the Bayliner Forum is indeed full of knowledgable folks. Nice place to find answers.

Any 14 year old motor will have issues. A lot depends on its previous owner's and the maintenance it received. Force outboards have a bad rap for not being very dependable. Again, the maintenance thing.

Before you decide to replace your motor check the CG rating plate that should be at or near the operator's station. Exceeding the max h.p. will not only jeapordize the integrity of the boat but could cause liability issues down the road if an accident should occur. No, you will not be able to use the existing controls with a replacement motor. Each and everyone is different. Sort of like trying to mate a horse with an elephant - ain't gonna' happen. Even with a Quicksilver system there are a lot of Merc's that will only opearate with their designated or designed systems. Hey, they gotta' make money somehow.

you could do alot worse. force outboards have a terrible rep. but if taken care of properly - they can give you many years of enjoyment. i see that the engine is a different year then the motor. my guess is that the boat originally came with the 120hp ( as did mine ) and replaced with the 150. i was forced to replace my 120 ( cracked head ) and i upgraded to the 150 ( boy, what a difference ). i believe that boat is rated for up to 175 h.p.

i love my rendezvous and had as many or more concerns as you - but im very glad i made the purchse. best of luck to you.

Johmar - I have a 1994 26' Rendezvous, and it has a 175 HP Merc, and I think that's the max HP rating for the boat. Even though it's a big boat, the 175 HP does a good job. Close to 40 mph top end, and acceleration is better than I expected. So the 150 may perform better than expected as well.

Overall I'm really happy with the boat. Lots of room, great ride, and just a fun boat.

Hi,I have a 94 rendevous with 94 150hp.Parts for motor seem easy to find.Speed on my boat is 28mph fully loaded.Great boat for fishing or pleasure riding.Heavy boat for pulling.Make sure your vehical is equipped for the weight.Hope this helps.Roy

I just bought one of these boats. It tells me that I can use up to 225 Max horsepower. The questions I have is I have found one of these boat's online with a 20inch shaft. What lenght shaft is on your boats? Any cavitation issues?
