1988 bayliner capri 1902 (19') cuddy with a 1988 force 125 hp outboard.
net weight is approx 1775.
the current prop is a 13.5 x 15 stainless steel constant pitch
according to iboats the factory prop is 14x13
i dont know the manufaturer of the ss prop but it does have p699 stamped inside the hub.
i tow a tube with no problem and the ss has a great holeshot, im just looking for a bit more top end (sorry my speedo and tach do not work)
would the 1\2 inch in prop diameter make any difference?
i would assume that the 14x13 prop would hurt my top speed a bit correct?
would a 14x16 do what i want? or should i stick with the 13.5?
im obviously new to boating and just dont want to blow a few hundered $$ messing with multiple props to find the right one.
any help would be greatly appreciated.

my clymers states wot is 4500 rpm if that helps any.

Without a tahometer and a GPS you are wasting your time, nobody an help you. And you are definitely in the dark about how your motor is running and if it is even healthy and whether you are lugging it.

im far from in the dark about how the motors running and if its healthy.
compression is solid accrost the board with under 10% difference.
i cleaned the carbs and syncd them together as with the timing. (last owner messed with the timing rod thinking it was the idle control screw.....)

i think that the 13.5 vs the factory 14 is pretty straight forward.

either way thanks for the help.

Aqua, I apologize for the statement of saying that your motor might not be healthy.
But boat motors have reommended operating range, and without knowing how many RPM you are turning with a speifi prop how do you know if that prop is a good fit for your boat and motor. It is impossible to know, you can't do it by ear as many people laim they an and find out later they were very wrong, as they are most times on the speed they are getting. I am just trying to make you understand that you probably have about $ 5,000 invested in your boat and motor, yet a tahometer osts less than a $ 100 and an tell you how muh prop slip you have as well as if your are running your motor in the right operating range and not lugging or over revving it and reating motor problems in the future that an be very expensive, and that is false eonomy in my opinion.
If you don't know how many RPM you are turning and how fast you are going at WOT you can't tell if it is the right prop or not and you certainly can't deide what pitch and blade geometry you need to change to and have a better setup for better speed and eonomy without either lugging the motor or over revving it.
A boat motor has loads put on it every minute that a car will never have, if you took a car and ran it taking off in 3rd grear and climbing a 35 degree incline the whole time it is running that would give you an indiation of what a boat motor goes through every time you use it and are running it.

I hope this helps you understand better what I am trying to warn you about. All you have to do is ask more seasoned boaters why they have tahometers and speedometers.

Re: bayliner W\125 force 14x?? or 13.5x??

i understand 100% what your saying.
i have no idea how one prop compares to another. the factory prop for my boat is 14x13 my current prop is a ss 13.5x15.
im trying to understand how those 2 compare to each other. I understand the differences in pitch but how does prop diamater affect speed vs off the line holeshot?

i just dont want to go broke buying props till i find the on that works, if i can i'll head down to the lake after work this week with the tom tom gps for my truck and see if i can get something from that.
