If you want no-wood, you are looking at Cobalt, Bryant, and maybe one or two others, and again, you're going to pay dearly for the privelege.

Glastron is wood free and I believe Yamaha jet boats are.

I don't think many boats are 100% fiberglass anymore. I think back in the day they started out with a lot of wood...and had issues.

Then in the 90s they went all Fiberglass...but they had issues. Maybe ridgity or something.

Now the norm is wood that has been injected with fiberglass and then encapsulated. Best of both worlds, I guess.

spikeitaudi: First of all I hope you are enjoying your new brand new Bayliner (It seems as if you are very much) as much as I am enjoying my 1988 Invader.

Thank you for posting this. This confirms what I have been told and read about. Makes me feel much better about looking at and buying a new or used Bayliner in the future and gives the new Bayliner owner and dealer ammo for the brand bashers out there.

I very nearly bought a 2010 Bayliner 175. My wife and I really liked it and the price was right for a new boat with a payment. The Bayliner 195 with the Mercruiser 4.3 was a close second and a Regal 1900 came in a distant 3rd (Wow is that a nice boat the price reflected that fact as well).

I shopped new to start with to see what was out there. I looked at Loads of great boats. Regals, Carvalles, Cobalts all expensive but nice. I asked the salesmen (non Bayliner) about Bayliners and talk about bad mouthing a brand.

Then I went to the Bayliner dealership I talked at length with the salesman and compared features and fit and finish. No, the Bayliners did not have the extra features that the much more expensive boats had. The thing that struck me was how solid the new Bayliner was, it was right up there with the rest.

After some discussion with the salesman he was quite taken aback when I told him about what the other dealers were saying about his brand. he showed me that the Bayliner hulls are built right next to and in the same factory with the Sea Rays. Hull construction is the same specs. He in fact said that when it comes to construction he would put any new Bayliner up against any other brand. Then he asked me what other brand is going to offer you a Lifetime warranty on the Hull construction of the boat? Not many. He stated that Bayliner now uses composite materials and fully encapsulated / fiberglassed marine plywood in the construction of their boats.

Bayliner is most certainly addressing the issues of the past and making an attempt of ridding itself of the substandard boat manufacturer reputation it has.

I have been around Bayliners my whole life. All of which have been very well maintained and cared for. Thus I never saw a bad or rotting Bayliner until I went boat shopping. I was never aware of the Bad reputation of the brand and everyone that I know that has owned one has been happy with theirs.

Construction, warranty, and reputation aside a boat is only as goods as its owner. A ChrisCraft, Cobalt, Crownline, Regal, Carvalle, Mastercraft will all rot and fall apart just like any affordable Bayliner if not properly maintained and cared for.

Are these boats built better than a new Bayliner? Maybe. Have they been built better than Bayliners of the past? Without a doubt they have. with that being said it still is not an excuse for poor care and maintenance.

In the end I chose the boat that I could pay cash for and have money left over. I love my Invader it is bigger and has a deeper hull. It does not have all of the features the Bayliner has but it has the features that I need.

1: it Floats
2: it runs good
3: it is in great shape
4: it is MINE, no boat payment.
5: most importantly It gets me my family and friends out on the lake for some fun in the sun and unforgettable experiences.

Brand, warranty, and reputation aside thats what boating is all about.

My wife is adamant that my 22 year old Invader be cared for and maintained in the utmost.

I am loving my boat so far. More importantly is that the family and kids are loving it also. We went for a week trip to Lake George and I trailered the boat there with no issues about 300 miles each way. We were on the boat exploring the lake everyday. We got lucky and had great weather. You would think by the time we got back we were boated out. The wife said get the boat clean for tomorrow as she wanted it back in out slip in our lake so we could go out the next day.

My wife and I are pretty anal about keeping things clean. Wife the house and me my cars. Well now both of us the boat. So to say the least the boat is still in showroom condition minus the rub from from me on the first day learning how to get into my slip. Other then that she's perfect.

As for your 88 Invader man that thing looks awesome. Still looks like showroom condition. Congrats and I am sure you are having as much fun as I am. And yes I am sure the extra cash in your pocket must be a nice feeling.

I already have 20 hours on my 2 month old bayliner and had to do the 20 hour service already. But I like keeping her in tip top shape. Might be a bad reputation bayliner. But it's MINE and all that matters is that we love it and take care of it. It's like my third kid.

The Interior looks near Showroom. She was definitely well cared for. I found the original owner as the Boat had a Placard on the dash just behind the steering wheel and below the instrument panel. with his name on it stating that the boat was custom built for him and he left a couple of old registration forms in the glove box. He said that it was a great boat while he had it and donated it because he bought a new one.

I fixed a couple of minor issues with the motor and have to fix some issues with the Gelcoat as it obviously sat in the water for long periods of time covered.

I am proud of her and can't wait to get back home to take her out as much as I can. My wife is happy with her as well. Insists that is be well taken care of. Nothing better than having a few brews while cleaning her up and doing the Preventive Maintenance on her after an outing. Especially when your 4 year old daughter is sitting in the boat with you asking when we can go back out again.

Like I said. I bought her as an investment in the family. I think I am going to have to open a separate savings account and save for a new Regal though. Those are some seriously nice boats. I am quite impressed with their company story as well. A nice affordable Bayliner would be great as well.

Your boat looks Beautiful on the water. Man I love the way those Bayliners look.

Or was that purely for artistic appeal?

Judging by the lady who is thigh deep in water I'm guessing that it is beached on a sand bar

Sub, were were at at cove,called logs bay, where the water was only 3ft deep. Wasn't on a sandbar, but I didn't want to take the risk of running my prop into the ground. I did have it anchored just in case.

I always trim my drive up when I am anchored in shallow water letting the family play and grilling. Lest someone come by in a boat causing a large wake smashing my drive on a rock and well you know.

Here are some photos. Not all that great but this is the day I got her home after a nice evening into night that extended into early morning out on Lake Lanier. Before I cleaned her up a little bit and Took her out to Lake Jackson the day after with the family. I will get some better pictures of her when I get home.

No wood in the glastrons, and ours was cheaper (last model year) then a bayliner. Not knocking them, I'm pretty sure our next boat will be the bayliner 245 pocket cruiser (I think it's the 245). The price is right and the features suite our needs.

Hi,

I bought the first new boat of my life in August 2012. Actually, my wife talked me into it because I had sold my previous boat just days before I went in for surgery on stage 4 prostate cancer. I was convinced I was not coming out but did. I have cancer again and I am doing my best to soldier on. I tell you this because I am so very sad about my beloved boat.
It is a 2012 Bayliner 170SF. It is everything I ever wanted it to be. It went into water last summer for only 2 hours as I was recovering from Chemo treatments and too sick to use it . I put in on a splash of fuel and enjoyed the boat so very much. This year I filled the tank, rented a cottage and went off for a great time. Arriving at the lake the fuel tank (onboard) was only half full and the floor was saturated with fuel. I used the boat a little but finally gave in to my wife and phoned my dealer who told me not to use it. I brought into the dealership and it has now been determined that there is a leak in the tank (plastic) that was put there when it was installed. The actual hole is not visible until the boat is split or cut open. The bill for which will be over $6000. I don't have it and I am told the boat is off warranty. I guess it is in fact off warranty. I am not wealthy and still work every day my health allows me. This boat was my dream for our retirement. It has been at the dealers for 3 weeks and still no commitment that Bayliner will extend the warranty. I did nothing other than put fuel in my boat with the intent to use it .I wish I could talk to an exec at Bayliner and explain how much this boat means to me. I am literally sick from the stress of not knowing if I have to make 8 more years of payments on a boat I'll have enjoyed for a total of 12 hours. Yes, 12 hours.
I have no ill feelings about my dealer or Bayliner. The dealer has been great at trying to bring forward my cause. I am just so tired and frustrated.
