Strato,

In my neck of the woods, "Offered By So and So Associates" signs are usually seen on larger vessels/yachts, i.e "Big Money Boats"

Re: Bayliner

Strato, the larger Bayliners were never really an issue, they were decent boats. The Bayliners in question were mid 80s to early 90s runabouts. The glaring problem was that they did not use as many layers of material in their hull layup. This was even on a Dateline type airing quite a number of years ago. They had several boats of different manufacturer represented. They simply walked along with a hammer and administered moderate blows to the hulls. There were a couple where the hammer went through with little effort, leaving jagged holes below waterline. Bayliner being one of them. It seems the entry level boats, 17, 18, 19 foot during my previously mentioned year dates eliminated a few layers in the layup to save money. They also did not use as much material when glassing structure in. As already mentioned, The smaller Bayliner runabouts were and still are entry level boats. Bayliner's larger express cruisers are fine. I like the way the 90s Capri looks, and if I got one dirt cheap or free, I would gut it, lay up another layer in the hull, and rebuild it right. Then it would be a good boat.

Re: Bayliner

JasonJ, thanks for the feedback, but Bondo didn't say 17, 18 or 19 foot boats. He says Bayliners...oops I mean Bilgeliners..are all lumped into his peculiar rating system. He didn't qualify his statement even after I mentioned that mine is a 30 footer.

BONDO: Bilgeliners are built with the Least amount of Inferior materials possible ,
To create the Illusion of a Quality Boat.....

This is not only My opinion, It's a Fact ....
And Bondo, you haven't told me what to look for on my boat yet. And I don't think you will, because you have nothing to back up your comments!

Mike P
Delusional Bayliner Owner

Re: Bayliner

Dam!!!!!!!!! Now my lip is bleeding.
Give up Bondo. As for Bayliners it is best not to have a opinion or at least not to put it writing. I wish the monitors here would forbid the word “Bayliner” in any post heading. It always brings out the worst in people. I am just as guilty as the next guy. I see Bayliner in the heading and I am drawn to it like a moth to a flame but I only need to get burnt once and I am done.

Re: Bayliner

Thanks for expressing my sentiments exactly, f_inscreenname. But as long as there are people like Bondo who put incorrect and inaccurate information in their posts, there will be someone like me who tries to set the record straight with facts and data.

To repeat his oft-quoted mantra: Bilgeliners are built with the Least amount of Inferior materials possible , To create the Illusion of a Quality Boat.....
This is not only My opinion, It's a Fact .... well that's just wrong, and may actually influence someone's boat purchase.

I don't know why he chooses to bone Bayliners, but he still hasn't taken me up on my offer.

So again:
Tell me what to look for, Bondo. Give me an example of cutting corners or poor quality compared to other production boats. I will look for it on my boat and take a photo for all to see.

I'm waiting......

Re: Bayliner

Well Strat...my inferior built 18 foot Trophy, which had it's start as a Bayliner, breaks apart and sinks every weekend on me. My family, my dog and I drown each weekend and then I put it back together so we can use it the following weekend. :) Don't all Bilgeliners owners do that?

The fact that it's an 18 foot boat that weighs 1975 lbs dry, has all stainless fittings (through bolted with backing plates) and rail, foam filled fiber glass stringers (yes it's a wood cored transom), marine grade wiring with chases (no, the connectors aren't covered in shrink tubing), decent flair (the 20 on up has a nice Carolina flair) and is a great bay boat (I only take it on the ocean on good days - remember it IS only an 18 foot boat) doesn't seem to matter much to those that haven't owned one but have opinions on them.

Re: Bayliner

I had an 88 Bayliner Cobra. Vinyl was thin and nothing was through bolted. Every weekend would end with a missing screw hunt in the cheap carpet. After 5 years of reliable, enjoyable rattling across lakes we traded up to a Bryant. The very day I was trading it in, my elbow hit the corner of where the top of the transom met the aft deck and knocked a hole in the beautiful metal flake blue fiberglass.

If it hadn't of been for the Bayliner purchase, there never would never have been the Bryant 182 purchase or now the 2002 Chap Signature 240 purchase. And this is the role of Bayliner...
