Hello,
I'm about to upgrade my 18 deep V aluminum fishing boat powerd by a 1986 Mercury 115 to the baystar hydro steering. I saw a few reviews of people having complaints about difficult steering and was wondering if it was just a fluke or what. I'd hate to throw $500 down the drain. The steering needs to be replaced, I have alot of flutter at idle and would hate for a failure while my kids are on board.

Thanks
Jeremy

I have Baystar on my Party Barge 22 with 115 hp Merc 4 stk. Had hard steering to the left initially, but after tuning the trim fin That went away and now no complaints. I have no recent experience with other sytems, the last time I had a boat was 1965 and it was only 14 ft with 40 hp, but I like my Baystar.

The BayStar suits me just fine. 4 years and no trouble. Take your hands off the wheel and the boat continues to track straight ahead.
You should choose a destroyer style wheel as the teleflex has no center point. 15" should be good.

Great system, my 19' Mako has a suz.150 and with the uniflex system and a 15" wheel it was like wrestling a barge, i put Baystar with a suicide knob and now its effortless, make sure you have a buddy to help bleed the system, fluid's like 20 bucks a quart.
