I realize this is the omc forum,but,no answers on the forum and I know there are some experienced wrenches here,anyone have any input on the baystar hydraulic steering systems,a friend ,in the outboard business for yrs.says to avoid,I only have used the seastar and hynautic,dont want to spend big bucks ,if need be I'll go back to the no-feedback cable,

It's still a T-Flex product. Some differences in dimensions I believe. It may - may - have a slightly different speed rating. If it's going in something fast, use the newer "Allison" cylinder. Can't remember the exact number -- something like 6304 rather than 5304, just can't remember the exact number offhand. Good product, nothing unusual to look out for as I remember.

I wish Hynautic was still arouind...............

Thanks for reply Dhad.I love hydraulic steering and I got a 16 ft.hewes bonefisher,90Yam.(hope I dont pi**,my freinds here off)but I drove many flats boats with hydraulic and it is sweet.Had hyd.in many other boats.In fact,my problem is,I went to my buddies shop to order the Baystar and he said"Dont do it,I installed a couple and lost money due to trouble,wont ever install again"So he is sharp,best in the Keys without a doubt,but I can't imagine Teleflex putting out a bad system,or at least not having it fixed by now.I'm going all the way with new steering tube(stainless)and hoping to get a system that wont give me grief.

I wouldn't be afraid of it on that boat at all. It'd be interesting to know what kind of "trouble" he had. Heck, with that purging tank they have even the bleeding is a snap. And no mess at all. I know a lot of the T-Flex guys and I can't imagine them not standing behind a system. They've been know to bend over backwards to help a customer.

I have a 19 Hewes with a 150 with the Sea Star system. No problems at all and it's 10 years old.

I've installed several of these systems without a hitch. I could not imagine having problems with installing one unless there is a defective part (which is rare). Bleeding the system is easy if you follow the instructions and installation is a snap as well. It's a great system for your size boat.

thanks flabum,thats what I thought,sometimes 1 bad experience can cause people to get a bad opinion
