Help please!
What is the best cam to run in a 460 Ford with flat top pistons. A heavy 23 foot jet boat, berkley pump. Exaust comes out below the water line.
Holman Moody on the exaust.
Also I was told to move the exaust up over the ski platform.
I need more power out of the hole and low rpm, as it takes a while to get on plane.
I an not concerned about top end.
Water comes into the engine on the exaust side, milking the engine. I will have the engine rebuilt any help is appreciated. Therefore I wonder if the cam duration makes a difference sucking water through the system.
Thanks Mike

Re: BBF 460 Cam

I really think that would be a good question for someone at Comp or Crane cams.

Is that a jet, VEE-drive or a Cobra?

If it's a Vee or a Cobra, you need to prop it for about 4400-4800 at WOT (According to OMC) lean towards 4800rpm for best hole shot.

If you want outstanding hole shot, put a 454 and Bravo III in it!!

My brother bought my 1987 FourWinns 211 Liberator new, with a 460 King Cobra in it. After he drove it last OCT with the 454/Bravo III he said it comes out of the hole more than twice a good as it EVER did even when he test drove it when brand new!!

Cheers,

Re: BBF 460 Cam

Wouldn't worry about moving the exhaust. Reducing back pressure is more for high rpm than low end.

Comp cams has some listings for marine.

Pgs 182- 185, pick your poison :D
