Bearing direction?

I have a 2005 Merc 150hp, Saltwater, Optimax and I have installed the upper driveshaft bearing and when everything is installed, I only have about two threads showing for the pinion nut, which had me baffled (it is all the way down and it is as far as it can be installed).
After looking at the picks in the manual it is showing the thin side of the race facing towards the gearcase and I have installed mine in the opposite direction. This 'seems' upside-down to me and I'm having trouble with pinion lash.. After looking at many images, I am confused on the direction it needs to be.

I have no personal knowledge of your engine. However, if you know you installed the bearing backwards, seems it is time to go back in and fix that. Look at it as a learning lesson and not a mistake... JMHO

Install it the way it shows in the MANUAL---------Remember that thrust forces the driveshaft UP towards the powerhead.

I wasn't thinking about the force aspect in regards to bearing position, but this does make sense given that design. The screwed in plate would be supported by the greater surface area of the race, so you're right, I should flip it. Now, to get it off without marring it... :grumpy:
