So, after a month or so of renovation and replacing the water pump, starter solenoid, and rectifier and adding a tachometer, temp gauge, and voltmeter on this '75 70 hp Evinrude and tri-hull, I took it out on the water over the weekend.
Runs great, right on up to 5200 rpm and holds a nice cruise at 3000. Smooth as can be! Not bad for an old boat that was parked under the trees for five years without so much as a cover over it.
But yesterday I noticed oil seeping from the lowest part of the lower unit. Question is, can I simply pull the bearing housing to replace the seals on the cap screws holding it in and the big o-ring on the housing itself without dropping the lower unit - as the service manual suggests?
I can't see from the diagram in the manual why it would be necessary to drop the lower unit; and I already replaced the water pump. So, these five seals/o-rings are all I need to replace, right?
Any tips, advice greatly appreciated,
