Re: bearing question

I usually clean as much as I can before it goes to the machine shop.

The forged pistons, theroticaly, should last longer. Most, not all, outboards are produced with cast and therefore possibly considered more common. A great percentage of motors are rebuilt using forged. Especially the coated ones.

Re: bearing question

Thanks for the advise,

So what i'm gonna do is the following:

- inspect the bearings and crank before i do
annything.
- take the block and clean it before sending it
to the machine shop.
- find out what size pistons to order
( wiseco forged)
- maybe order rod bearings, wristpin bearing,
uppercrank bearing,center crank bearing only
if needed plus
gaskets,thermostats,carbkit,waterpump,bolts
and other stuff
that will keep me going for a while.

will let you know when i get the crank out.

reeldutch

Re: bearing question

I had a hard time with the dowel pin on de left side close to engine mount.(crankcase cover to block)
with the other top dowel pin i didnt have any problems but the bottom one was a pain.
harder to reach and tap on it.
bud i got it out.
It is amazing how much carbon will build up in a powerhead. From now on i will decarb twice a year to break it down.
still waiting to get the holding tool in.
keep u posted

reeldutch
