Please Excuse the length of this post. This is my first post to Iboats. I purchased a 1970 Glasstron V 166 Tri-hull with a 1970 chrysler 85hp from one of my best friends. I am sure you have heard that one before. This guy will do anything for you...even sell you a good boat that "just needs a starter". By the way he is Cuban so "starter" is spanish for new floor, stringers, transom, and carburator rebuild lol. I know I know i am the one who bought it so the blame is on me and he bought it from someone who bought it from someone so. He and i both have been working on the engine but did not have a clue what lied beneath the floor. Anyhow, i will be doing a complete restoration of this boat along with converting it to a center console. But here is the kicker...the previous owner before my friend and I owned it, "fixed" the floor and stringers and then layed plywoood and indoor/outdoor carpet on top to give it a great finish. Check out the stringer and foam job below. Yes that is a branch that was shaved to make a flat surface for the plywood to lay on. The last pic is the hardware store where he got his stringers. LMAO:eek:

By the way i will continue to post the progress that is made along with pics and some video. Special thanks in advance to my friend Denny(the guy i bought the boat from) for the help with fiberglassing and painting.

HELLO WASHINGTON!!!! haha gotta love Chris Farley...God rest his soul. I will post some pics of the whole boat along with the inside for everyone to see tomorrow. I didnt get any pics today because i was so upset with the tree branches for stringers. Although they were glassed in they were still tree branches. my question is if you are going to do such a half a%$ job like that then why waist the time to fiber glass them in. Whatever. i am going to need everyones help so keep the info commin. i knew this boat was going to need some work just from other posts that i have read on here but i never would have imagined this. i cant wait to get the ole girl clean inside so i can dress her in some better clothes. Its like having a hot date for the prom and her folks dressed her up like a circus freak. it just aint right

Yep ooops is right I have it all in my thread , any time you need some help just give me a yell !!!

Re: Beat this!!! New Stringer Method(pics)

John i will def. be coming to you for some measurments. i just cant seem to get a good pic of what they should be from the BRANCHES...LOL

well i am just getting home from my job. It is 1:15 in the morning here. I work second shift so it is really hard to get out of bed in the am and get on here.

I have to feed the hogs, milk the cow, cut wood for next winter, plow the fields...ok i am just BSing. I dont get to do alot to the boat before work but two more days and i will have three weeks straight off.

i hope to have the cap off this weekend and then start dismantling the tree fort under my floor HAHAHAHA.

I would like to meet the person who did this...although they prob. are on an island somewhere waiting to be picked up because their branches in their new boat didnt hold up as well as they thought.

Well until next time...drive fast and pass on curves

Re: Beat this!!! New Stringer Method(pics)

WELL WELL WELL i actually did drag myself outta bed to get on here before i go to work today. Denny and i are having a discussion about foam and what its used for. check it out its title is...

foam and what its for

I dont know how to show thread so thats as good as it gets for now.

Back to my boat, i have a couple things that i was thinking about. i want to use this stuff called NIDA-CORE for the stringers and transom. My brother, who is a guide in Florida, was telling me that all the old timers and new timers down there are using this stuff. They are going and buying early 80's model aqua sports and hydra sport center consoles and guttin them and then using this stuff to lighten the load. which in turn is letting them use less engine, less fuel, and if they run it up on a sand bar they can push it off. I have had to help him pull a boat in the flats for about a mile it seemed when the engine failed one time and between the threat of sharks, stingrays and the heavy boat it didnt make for a good experience. If he would have just used Nida Core then atleast the shark biting me and the barb from the stingray might not have been that bad :p while pulling the boat from in the water. LOL

Also i am thinking the i need to take the cap off to make all the modifications, upon further review, namely jcsercsa's project, i think that i can do it without removing the cap. Take in mind that i am coverting it to a center console and taking the cap off might make it easier to cut the seating area out. Im just worried about fitting it back in when done.

I think I'll wait till you take Denny out for the first ride. I'll stand on shore and watch...if no flares are seen I'll figure it's safe to be the "second" passenger to take a ride!...lol

bucsfinsfan13 You still have to prop the top in the back , like i did, just be carefully , if i had to do again I think I would do it the same way just prop it a little better up by the helm !!! John
