Anyone ever been to Beaver Lake in Arkansas? I've heard great things. Any personal experience?

Re: Beaver Lake, AR

From a boater's perspective, I can't offer much, however in the early days of my career, I spent a lot of hours flying over it doing survey work for the Arkansas Game & Fish Comission. It is an absolutely gorgeous lake, seems like 47.000 acres total area...lots of "fingers" to explore, and scenic hills (I called them mountains, since I was from S.E. Kansas.

There's no doubt I'd own a boat if I lived there now.

If you ever visit the Fayetteville/Springdale/Rogers/Bentonville area, there are two "must eat" places I'd recommend. One is AQ Chicken...a barbecue chicken joint. The other is Penguin Ed's (in Fayetteville)...outstanding barbecue.

Sorry can't provide more details. I'm sure if you plan a visit there, you won't be disappointed.

Re: Beaver Lake, AR

I am from Fayetteville originally. I grew up fishing off of Warr Eagle and Blue Springs on Beaver lake. It is a gorgeous lake and has excellent fishing. The arms are really calm and serene. The mainbody isn't that bad either except on a busy Saturday. If memory serves me correctly, I believe it is a fairly deep lake too. Since the lake is surrounded by the Ozarks, wind doesn't really stir the water that bad.

I think of it as a sister lake to Table Rock in Missourri since they are both formed by the White River. I do believe that Beaver is not quite as large as Table Rock however.

If I lived in Fayetteville still, I would have a home on Beaver for sure. Also, as the post mentioned above, do try Penguin Ed's barbecue and AQ Chicken House. Although, you being in Overland Park, I imagine you will probably find it hard to beat Gates or KC Masterpiece!

Re: Beaver Lake, AR

Being a native of Kansas and now an Arkansas "Redneck" I will vouch that the Lakes in AR are hands down better than KS. Only been to Beaver Lake once and was very impressed. Now live in Central AR and enjoy Lake Ouachita every weekend. Both or maybe all lakes in AR are very clear and plenty of room for all.
I will admit though I do miss the KS BBQ joints but I do return home at least twice a year.
