Hi. I'm looking at a 1968 Bedford boat and motor for sale. Does anyone know anything about them, good and bad. I'm wondering about parts. Thanks Arny.

Re: Bedford boats and motors

I will first say I don't know anything about Bedford boats and therefore probably shouldn't answer your post.....
I think you need to look at the motor again. There weren't any Beford motors that I heard of. If it's a fiberglass boat, it's likely a nightmare. Most fiberglass boats that age are. I know because I own 2 of 'em. One is needing the stringers and floor replaced right now---and I HATE that type of work. If it's wood........ even worse and even more upkeep unless it's been meticulously cared for. If the motor is an outboard and it's either a mercury or johnson around 40hp in the 1969-71 range, then again, I wouldn't be interested. The OMC is likely an electric shift lower unit, and the mercury's mild steel driveshaft is likely pitted and the gears rusted. How about pics? Is it a garaged creampuff?
