I have a 2000 25 hp Yamaha 4 stroke on a 1542 Xpress. The motor runs great and is trouble free but the hole shot bites the big one. Has anyone run across anything as far as upgrades for power on these motors. I've had it propped out and it's running 25 mph loaded with about 300 lbs ( persons, fuel and gear), so i feel it's probably doing as good as can be.

there are no "upgrades".... the only thing you can do is try get the boat set up right. meaning the right prop to let it reach at or near its max recommended wot and the the engine sitting as high as possible without ventilating excessively.

without knowing what the boat is... i would say an honest 25mph with a 25 horse is doing alright.

That's what i thought, no upgrades and I do feel it's doing a good job. Easy on gas also. Thanks for replying

i used to have a 30hp 2 stroke yam on a lightweight 16' skiff and the most i got out of it was 28 with a light load and it was propped perfect. small motors arent real gutsy out of the hole, its just the way it is. and 4 strokes are slower out of the hole than 2 strokes in my experience
