Re: Beer Belly Removal

I dont know if any of you on here have ever tried it but the P90X system does work. I did it for about 60 days last year and lost about 40lbs unfortunately the work outs are about an hour long six days a week. Working several jobs I just didnt have the time to continue. I do want to get back into it.

P90 is great! As long as you stick with it the results are fantastic. The diet guide is key for people who don't know much about eating right. No black magic involved though: calories in < calories burned = weight loss.

Re: Beer Belly Removal

I toasted my lower back doing a heavy set of leg presses last Sept. Over the winter I bulked up to 260. Have been back at the gym for about a month 2 days a week and am back down to 250. It's going to be awhile before I can go heavy again. At the time I hurt my back I was working off the some extra weight from a rest. I can't wait to get down around 240 again. BTW do they make life jackets for bigger people?

Weel blacksmith04, I don't know if life jackets can support 250 lbs of muscle. I've never been there. Best I've done is 220 lbs of ugly fat, but it's coming off. I think you'll be alright in type 5 Coast Guard approved life jacket. That's what they require on the Colorado rafting adventures...You know, the big puffy ones. If you have a 52 inch chest you may be able to qualify for a May West contest and win some kind of flotation record. Think about it...

Re: Beer Belly Removal

I lost a small person over 2009 and 2010 (105 Lbs that I'll admit to. I don't know how much I really weighed when I started to lose weight). Its now been almost 9 months that I have maintained my weight at fairly steady 195 - that's through the fall, the Holidays, and the winter. There is no "secret"; exercise more, eat less foods that are bad for you. When you do eat, unprocessed stuff and varieties are key. Stay away from stuff that comes out of boxes, sealed bags, or cans. Try to stay away from anything that has more than 5 ingredients, or more than 2 unpronounceable words in the label. I don't deny myself much, but I do limit what I eat of certain foods. Oh, and avoid eating out. It costs a lot both at your waistline and at your wallet.
I exercise 3 times a week for an hour at a time. Weights and cardio. When I was losing the weight, I emphasized the cardio for fat loss. Now that I am down to about 14% body fat, I emphasize the weights. Drink lots of water. Stay active in the evenings (working on the boat, or around the house) if you are home. Don't plop down in front of the TV and zone out. There is too much to do...

Its not complicated, but its also not easy to do. You are gonna be hungry at times, and tired, and feeling like you just want to forget about it but in the end you'll feel better, have more energy, and look better too.

Good luck guys, its completely possible.

-Rgds

Re: Beer Belly Removal

We are doing the biggest loser at work.

First place is $350. On top of that, I might get to live longer (I'm 30 this year, which for my family means I'm well over half way to death), and perhaps I'll be able to ski for the first time ever.

I'm down 22lbs so far, and am shooting for another 20lbs on top of that.

I'm trying to exercise daily, and intake around 1500 calories a day. Seems to be working so far. I also have an app for my iPhone that tracks all the calories that I eat and exercise.

It is really a life change - and one that is tough for me. I've always been a big eater, and changing that habit has been the toughest part.

Good luck to all!!

I tried to put on a adult type 2 PFD. It looked stupid and felt that way too. The PFD came down just below my pects and the strap was tight under my armpits. It looked like I had a foam ring around my neck. I got a type 3 PFD/fishing vest thats for 1-3XXL.

It's great to see all the successful weight loss stories. If you ever think that America isn't the land the obese, walk thru a WalMart on a sunday...

I was getting a little to heavy as i spent my last 18 months at work sitting behind a desk. Now, I go to the gym 6 days a week. 1 hour of resistance/weight training and 5 miles a day on the treadmill. Of course, the diet has changed as well. Down 20+ lbs of doughy and up 10 lbs of muscle.

I for one can't stand the treadmill. I'll walk on one but can't seem to get my stride while running on one. Now I don't mind watching women run on one. It tends to get my heart rate up into the fat burning range just sitting there.

Reluctantly admitted that at age 45, my body isn't going to forgive my lifestyle much longer. No exercise to speak of and a habit of liking carbs...Plus, I can see my kid is living my bad habits too and at 9 yrs old is a little pudgy himself.

My cardio-kickboxing, runner wife has been on my butt to get off my butt for a while and I'm finally trying to do it. (Plus it's not fair I get to look at her lovely firm curves...while she has to look at my unlovely flabby ones...:D).

I'm in week three of a thrice-weekly workout plan. Nothing too scary to start - some treadmill, eliptical, and weight machine work. I'm "only" 20 pounds heavy but my cardio is pathetic and that's what really concerns me. So, I'll just start little by little and see where it goes. I find cutting down on meal portions the hardest, though. :(

Re: Beer Belly Removal

Try the Atkins diet...Now i know this can be controversial but the results are amazing. A personal note...there can be Carib withdrawal and it can be as intense as smoking cessation...for 3 days i was very miserable. After 12 days the belt tightened up two notches and i lost 8 lbs...Most noticeably was the bloat loss...it really is amazing.

Yrs later i still cant process carbs without bloating up but i sneak them in my diet much the same as big piece of cake....potatoes are the same as chocolate cake....well buttered with garlic...even better..;)

Carbs have so little attention paid to them....now take them away and its pretty amazing for myself it was addiction and excessive weight gain. Little side note my Dr. hates the ideal and believes long term damage may result....but my lab test always come back with very positive results...she takes time now to observe me closely when i come...It has peaked her curiosity although she wont admit it..:D

I have 4 brothers all are in excess of 5'11" and they all weigh in at about 220-240...I come in at 185....Just a thought.

I'm glad for you if Atkins worked for you, but the doc is right! Our bodies' main energy source is carbohydrates. Eliminate carbs and you'll start burning protein and other stuff - it's like running a car on E85. Sure, it runs, but it's way less efficient and was never designed to work that way. Carb starvation causes all sorts of bad consequences, from lack of energy to bad moods. I know when I haven't had enough carbs for the day, I can barely muster a solid workout. God forbid you actually try to do serious training on a low-carb diet!

The gimmick diets like Atkins are what they are - gimmicks. You get on a sensible calorie intake as the diet prescribes and of course you're going to lose weight! It has nothing to do with the amount of carbs you're eating. An excess of carbs is not good but neither is too small an amount. What's really important is getting the correct balance of nutrients in your diet. You need a modicum of fats, a decent amount of protein, and fill out the rest with carbs. For example, I weigh 160lb and on a weight loss diet I'm eating 60-80g of fats and 160g of protein a day then filling out the rest of my daily calories with carbs. That's almost half of what I eat in a day!

The ONLY thing that really matters in losing weight is total calorie intake. That's it! Your body is a simple engine that runs off the calories you take in. If it doesn't have enough active fuel, it goes to backup systems - fat. The only thing that makes a difference is if you starve yourself (eating ~500cal or more below what you burn in a day). Then your body burns heavy muscle tissue instead of fat. You can eat McDonald's on your diet and still lose weight, but you're going to use up most of your calories for the day in one sitting!

Re: Beer Belly Removal

Yeah the Atkins diet will dramatically make you lose weight initially but it is not healthy weight loss, you are just making your body essentially eat itself to lose weight. Plus as stated above you need carbs to funtion, but again it really depends on the person.

I just started working out again a few weeks ago, I was at 230lbs and I am 5'9". I have always been fairly muscular so the extra weight didn't wear too bad, just had more of a 'beer gut' than I wanted. Anyway I am a firm believe in conventional ways of losing weight. Good healthy eating plan and exercise.

I go to the gym 5 days a week, I do 4 miles on the elyptical and 3 miles on a bike; then I go around and do all the weight machines in the whole place for the next hour. The total work out takes around 2 hours. In the last two weeks I have firmed up a ton and have lost 11lbs. I want to get down to 200lbs even and pack on some more muscle.

Again as stated above, exercise and eating are your fool proof plan to losing weight and more importantly staying healthy.

I put some light barbells and workout equipment in the boat.

Now I can say it's time to go to the gym, and you know where that is!

Down by 7, hoping another 10 or so. Last year I did something similar and began to exercise more. I found it helped me out more in wake boarding and reducing cramping in my feet. And I had more strength.

Ugh, only at -10 almost two weeks later, I figured I would be farther along by now. Goes on fast, comes off slow.

Doc told me that a pound a week was sustainable and losing more than that might come back right away. But as everyone who has been successful has said, long term lifestyle and eating habit changes will bring the greater long term healthy weight loss..
