I don't remember if I have posted this before or not, but here goes anyways...........

This is a great chicken recipe if you are a fan of really juicy chicken. I have never eaten a chicken that was more tender than this either.

Take a can of beer and drink a little less than half of it (this is the best part)
Add minced garlic and whatever your favorite spices make be.
Take the beer can full of spices and shove it into the chicken (right into the cavity )
Place chicken standing upright into a drip pan.

You can cook it in an oven or on a gril with indirect heat. The grill is by far the best. Pour a little beer or water in the pan to use for basting. 1-2 hours cooking about does it. The drippings can be turned into what I feel may be the best gravy ever...........

They now make ceramic stands that hold the chicken upright that you pour beer into. We have also poured in apple juice etc.

The chicken is very flavorful and juicy.

We have done a Turkey like this on the grill too, but we had to use a 40oz can of beer to do it.

Re: Beer Can Chicken

I use a little stand made for the purpose. It has a drip/basting pan under the bird. I have had it for 10-15 years.

I coat the bird with herbs first; put some wine, cider or even orange juice in the pan and roast in a 350* oven for an hour (broiler) or two (baking hen).

Haven't tried it with beer, but it sure is the best roasted or broiled chicken I ever ate.

The best way is with 16oz cans i start off with a sixpackd:) i do some with spicys or whatever i feel.margarita mix is really good with i lime or lemon shoved in the neck.on the rest i quarter an onion and shove it into the neck that way it seals it up and it steams from the inside.also a good dryrub on the outside is really good too.the possibiltys for this is endless thats why i like doing them at least once a week.

My fav drunk chicken is one with Emerils Essence rubbed all over and I put some essence in the halfcan of beer. I cut the top completely out of the beer can, if it matters. MMmmm crunchy chicken skin.....

I also add a smoke pouch of hickory chips that have soaked in water. Just poke some holes in the foil and put it on the coals.o:)

Re: Beer Can Chicken

Hmmmm
I've been doing that for years when smoking birds.
However the down fall is that after smoking all day the drippings cant be used for gravy.

Unless baked (not smoked) the way Blackgang said..
Using just enough chips for a light flavor.

Never tried baking one though. Oven or grill.
Now Ive gots to try this in the next day or two.

Recipe as follows
Six pack of beer. And eer something about a chicken! ;)

Re: Beer Can Chicken

It was OK. I guess it probably depends on what kind of beer you use.
I think I picked too light of a beer.
I will try it again with a heavier beer (hefeweisen maybe).

Re: Beer Can Chicken

This has been around many years as I remember at camp outs when a kid when beer was in tin cans, not aluminum. I wonder what the paint from the can and hot aluminum release into the chicken.

I now use a ceramin dish with the can in the trash. Just me, I even prefer beer in a bottle because I think the can changes the taste.

The beer itself isn't really all that important. I use Keystone cuz its cheap. Pour about half out, add a little COKE (not Dr P, pepsi, etc) and a few spices. Its the steam of the liquid that makes the chicken breasts extremely moist. I just did two of them on my smoker night before last. I smoke them for about an hour at around 250 then remove the can and wrap in foil on a tray. Put in the oven for about a hour and a half on 325-350. I'm hungry again.

Re: Beer Can Chicken

KB,
I will try that then. I added some spices, but no Coke (the drink, not the powder, or burned coal) 8)
I will give it another shot.
I used Michelob Ultra (cuz it was cheaper than most)

Thanks for the tips.
