My Son was at a friends house and decided to do a little OFF ROADING by himself on the way home. Fortunately He was some how able to survive.

Re: Beer was definitly involved here

We figure he fell approx 150 to 200 feet. and was able to walk back to his friends house 1 mile away.

You can see the path that he traveled from the lfert upper middle of the picture to the lower right. the actual place he stopped rolling is blocke by another ridge.

The Sheriff said it was unrecoverable but 3 of use were able to pull it out in 3 hours.

I think it might buff out...

Ok, you might need some touch-up paint...

Well, maybe a can of gas and a match would be more effective!

Thank God he is OK. It looks like that is the real miracle here.

Here is the path of his fall
100_0587.jpg

He'll be all right. He's resting at home and G-ma is tending to him. I just hope he learned a lesson. His left foot is black and blue, he has a knot on the back of his head, some bruised ribs and scrapes and cuts all over his body. We don't think he had his seat belt on but when the roof colasped it kept him in the cab. Near as we can tell he thought he was driving up a hill and didn't realize tatht there was a drop off. It appears that he was on his wheels for the first part and then whent airborn and fliped end over end landing on the tailgate and back of the cab. He then bounced to the left landing a good 30 ft landing on the drivers side tires blwing them out. He then proceded to roll down about 60 more feet to the bottom of the ravine. The Sheriffs had to fly in with a helicopter to inspect the scene. The refused to believe that anyone could have survived.

The only thing to salvage are the air bags. Because he never impacted on the front the did not deploy.

Beer will do that to you. He was lucky, that he did not die and that no one else died.....................

OMG! Thank God he was Ok after this, aside from a few bruises, and nobody else got hurt. If he did this on purpose, I hope he learned something from it, to be more careful!

Re: Beer was definitly involved here

We went back out to the canyon this morning to look for his cell phone. We covered the area that he traveled and only found pieces of the truck scattered about. It pisses me off when people trash the enviroment so I made sure we picked up every piece we could find and disposed of it properly.
We were able to climb less than half way up. The area is 30 degrees or more and it's mainly sand and gravel after the initial drop. The hospital I work in is 10 stories and the height he traveled from the top to bottom is half again as tall making it around 150'-175'.

I told him that he died that morning and that he should consider his life from now on as a new start. I think the magnitude of what happened is slowly sinking.

He has no wheels and Mom and I refuse to let him drive one of ours. He ruined a pristine, truck now he'll have to deal with it. Also he's suffering with out his cell phone.

Will he learn? Who knows? I blame his Mother. :)

Re: Beer was definitly involved here

You're absolutely right to let him deal with the consequences of what he did. So many worthless parents would rush out and buy him another shiny new truck.

And he'd rush right back out to get drunk again and drive it around some more, the following weekend...

Hopefully the fall beat enough of the stupid out of him, that he'll learn the lesson you're trying to teach him. :D

Good for you!

Re: Beer was definitly involved here

I'm glad he is OK. I had one of those trucks, except mine was a white TRD 4X4. Love it. Wish I still had it. The engine, transmission and trandfer case are prolly still salvageable. Hell, that truck might start and run. The last Toyota 4X4 I wrecked was totalled and I drove it for a month after the crash. If your boy is under 30, he may not learn a whole lot from this. I didn't learn anything from the multitude of scrapes I survived when I was young. But then I haven't learned much from the scrapes I've survived as an adult.......

Re: Beer was definitly involved here

We're going to cut out the engine and trans next week. I think the fuel auto shutoff activated on the first impact. And since he never hit on the front te air bags were not deployed. Also the cat and radiarors can be scraped. Steel out here is going for $350/ton. If you go to the docks it's $600/ton. If He's lucky he might make enough to by a beater to get him by. We told him when we helped him by the Toyota it was the last time we loan him money to by a vehicle and I'm sticking to that. He has to take responsibility for his own actions. I still blame his mother. :)

I truly cannot believe that he survived that fall, from that photo. Luck does not even describe what happened, and I certainly hope he understands the gravity of the entire event.
