those that think there shouldn't be any restrictions.

I am sorta in this camp as Boating is one of the few places that true outdoor freedom and stuff that goes still resides. I think there are lot of guys who seriously NEED a boaters license, but I don't want that to be mandatory . . .

The new order of things is that if you drink and operate a boat, and get caught doing that, you will suffer the consequences

Actually it is if you are drunk and operate a boat . . . Big difference between what you posted and the law in most places . . .

The law here in ok is you may drink and operate a boat but you cannot be under the influence. i view it as you go out to dinner and have a drink ,should you not drive home. or by what some say is if you want a drink and dinner you stay at home and cook. that is what is being said now how much since does that make...

I live on a lake. Most every one I boat with, meet on the water or speak with, include some sort of adult beverage in the cooler when heading out for a day on the lake. But you would never know it if you passed them on the water under way or at anchor. The zero tolerance camp would have all of these family's breaking the law.

I live in Scotland UK and indulge in my water sports hobby on lochearnhead, a beautiful lake in the centre of Scotland. there is no law in Scotland whatsoever to stop anyone drinking and driving a boat/jet ski, It sounds crazy that you can do this and get away with it. thankfully there is nothing like this going on where we are but you read about it nearly every summer happening somewhere in the country.

I am not really of the zero tolerence viewpoint. What I would encourage is a 100% responsibility viewpoint. I think you can set policies aboard your boat that allow folks to have fun, while not endangering anyone else. To the extend that is possible, I do believe that a reasonable atmosphere should exist.

I wrote a very long post in another thread about this last week. Frankly it was too long and I should have cut it down a bit, but suffice it to say that, when someone is seriously injured or killed in an accident in which alcohol consumption played a part, things get very stupid very quickly. When the lawyers get into it, right and wrong don't mean much - you get sued anyway. To that, I will only speak for myself. As one who has been there as a completely sober and innocent party, but still was sued to the tune of hundreds of thousands of dollars, is "inhales" in a major way. My point about skippers is that remaining 100% sober can be a very major factor in how badly you get hurt financially.
