I love to see some pics of old pieces of junk that have been repaired and put back to use. Anybody want to volunteer some pics? Okay, I'll go first.:D
Yes, it runs great. I may post a running pic later. 110 lbs of compression on both cylinders. I fixed this one for a friend....cost about 55 dollars for new float, needle and seat, spray paint, tape, l.u. oil, and l.u. seals. He hasn't seen it yet; I hope he likes it. He's 87 yrs. old and still gets around great.

Looks great, JBJ. Did you strip the old paint first? Is so, what method do you use?

Re: Before and after motor picsI

Wayne,
I don't like to strip the paint unless I have to----1. I'm too lazy 2. The new paint always sticks better to old paint than to primed aluminum for me.
I just sand it a little and clean it with a little acetone. I also like to clean around the hard to get areas with some scotchbrite. It seems to work o.k.
That motor doesn't look quite as good in person as in the pic. But it is good and clean. I didn't want to pay for a sticker so I just painted around the letters a little, too. He probably won't use it twice if ever, but it does run nice. I had never seen one of those 60's evinrudes in decent looking shape and always thought they were ugly. I still think the 25's are ugly (he's got one of those, too) because the cowl is so huge. But I have come to like the 5.5's and 18's pretty well. And like F-R said, the cowl is nice and quiet.
Later,
JBJ

Here is a before picture of my 54 15hp Evinrude. I'm getting the hood painted and will have it done Monday. I rattle canned the lower and had my body man do the hood with new decals. I will post finished pictures Monday evening. Pretty sad looking now.

Just got it put back together tonight. I think it turned out pretty good. Now I'm afraid to get it wet. :D

Next two projects. If I can find some decent emblems for the 58, it's next. I'll probably leave the 66 alone since it's my workhorse.

Wow, pretty good is an understatement, eh? The paint job is very slick! DId you buff it or did it come out that smooth? What kind of paint did you use?
I love it when a plan comes together.......:)

Re: Before and after motor picsI

Thanks JB. The lower I sprayed with a self etching primer and then Duplicolor #155 light metalic blue and then I cleared it. My body man matched the blue and the light grey contrast with a base clear coat. We put on the decals and then cleared it again so the decals would stay put. I got about $250 in the the whole project including what I paid for the motor.

Well,
You've got to put 'er in the water and go wide open for a good distance and reach the "moment of truth" when either the lower unit paint peels off or stays.:D I always dread it. If it stays on after a good lengthy run, it usually stays for good. BTW, I liked your shop!
Good luck,
JBJ

I can give a whole bunch of before pictures.:D

I am nowhere near having the time or funding to finish them, but will get there someday.

A very clean motor! I'll bet it's hard to keep that yellow/white combo clean!
Have you retired it or is it still in action?
You truly are an outboard nut!;)

Re: Before and after motor picsI

Don't have a before pic but here's an old '76 mercury 7.5hp that I just repainted and put decals on. I still haven't clearcoated it so it'll look better shortly. I'm going to make it the first one I ever sell on ebay. It runs really nicely and I hope someone is pleased with it. She'll crank on one compression stroke warm.........but takes a few more cold.

Re: Before and after motor picsI

Here's one of my latest pics of my oldies, except for the QD-14 I keep in my house, if anyone's interested in looking. The '56 15hp evin. is next on the "to paint list". it runs really smooth since it had the coils replaced. The qd-14 in the front is the only one that doesn't have all the kinks worked out. It has me baffled. The two smaller engines in the front right are actually perpetual motion machines!

Looks good, JBJ.

I was looking at those decals for a 1974 Mercury 7.5 hp I have. How good do they look in person? Are they worth the $?
