hey,

im new here and to boating. i picked up a 57 bigtwin 35 to put on my new-to-me avon. the lady i bought it off had no info on it except it hasnt ran in 2 yrs. i am a general mechanic, but i never worked with boat motors yet. all i know is dont run it out of water.

some questions i have is,

what is the o/f ratio?
what to look at / do before i start it and run it up river?
tips on operation? (ie, the two knobs)
does anyone have manuals on pdf?

any and all info would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,
sonny

Re: before starting 57 bigtwin

well, started taking it apart, and im down to a few speed bumps. one, the bearings in the lower unit are seized, 2, the lower spark plug wont fire, 3, the little piece of plastic that mated the throttle handle shaft to the throttle lever is broken. (where the shaft makes a 90* bend before entering the cowling). and the bottoming out bump is the propeller shaft seal housing.

those last 2 i think are the worst of my worries right now.

on a good note, everything seems to be in better than old condition. it even had a new waterpump installed. i think it will be a good motor if i can find these odd parts.
