My wife and I just picked up an old 1959 Glasspar Seafair Sedan and are considering whether to keep her or not.
It had been sitting for 6 or so years outside and needs work (of course).
We really like this style of boat and after talking with and reading threads of other Seafair Sedan owners we think this may be a great boat when done (many people restore these due to their handling etc.).
Right now we have pressure washed it, checked for soft spots and transom flex but that all seems good (surprisingly), I can get to the center stringer via the bilge pump hatch and although it's damp from water draining through her over the years it is still firm and not punky / falling apart like I thought it may be.
While we are in decision mode I do want to at least clean it up a bit and the first thing I can tackle is the cuddy cabin.
I have pressure washed the inside and it's drying out now. The reason for pressure washing was basically a poor mans sand blaster that took most of the 50 plus year old flaking paint off. I will hit it with a wire wheel for the next step.
My first question to you all is...
Would a spray in bedliner product..or better yet (because it's white) the recently released spray rubber (there's a couple different brands now) be an acceptable product to spray inside the entire cuddy area (well the fiberglass areas)?
My thoughts on this were mostly because of the "possible" sound deadening I "might" get from using this kind of product.
Plus if I get in the seams / corners good it will help keep water out of a little more since these have been known to seep a little bit around the windows I have heard.
Has anyone tried this sort of thing? or is there better sound deadening or paint solutions etc. for old fiberglass cuddy's?
Thank you.
