Being towed in from Gulf of Mexico, Not fun!

I have a 1994 Bayliner with a mercruiser 3.0l. Last weekend went out and got home to find 3/4 of a gallon of oil in my bilge. I stumbled on to the problem, the brass tube to the oil pressure sender had broken where it threads into the block. I managed to use an "easy out" to get the remaining threads out of the block. I got a replacement tube and made the repair, or so I thought. I started this morning heading up a local river, rode for about an hour stopping every now and again to fish. I check the oil level at each stop and kept a sharp eye on the oil pressure (stayed constant on 40). Decided I wanted to head out to the gulf of mexico. Made the trip back down the river out the bay and into the gulf. All this time I was keeping an eye on the oil pressure. Right when I decided to call it a day, I heard a "pinging" noise from the engine compartment. I looked a the oil pressure, there was none. Jumped to the back of the boat and every bit of my oil was in the bilge again. I had no oil on board, now I am stuck. I called a buddy and he had to play hooky from work and come bail my hind parts out. I sat out there, no sun shade on my boat, for about three hours. It took us an hour and a half to get back in. Anyway, while I was waiting I scooped up some oil and "recycled" it. There was no water mixed in. Once I had enough in to register on the dip stick, I fired up the engine. The oil was oozing out to the oil pressure sender tube threads on the block. Any suggestions on how to get this to seal. I am trying to figure out why all of sudden it started leaking, did fine all morning. Also, the oil only had about three hours on it but it was pretty blackened like older oil. What could cause that? Thanks for reading my story, at least I have good friends, my wife is mad she won't be getting an insurance check today...LOL.

Get rid of the copper tube, switch to braided stainless. It doesn't break under vibration. That copper is notorious for breaking.

you can get the braided stainless already precut and with the correct fittings at Summitracing.com or JEGS.com. Possibly the boating places as well.
