Hi,
1987 Alpha 1. Bellows and hoses all replaced. Senders also. Put on the bell housing today and torqued the side bolts as specified. Also put in the spec washers. Now they come with stickum on one side. I have a little play from side to side in the bell housing. Is that normal? Did I miss something?
Also, as you screw in the shift cable, do you have to bury the brass fitting? Or do you crank until tight.
Thanks Roman

Define "a little"

The book says no more than 2 threads exposed, but that's a bit vague as to where, but there is usually a gap of about 1/8" between the nut and the bellhousing.

Re: Bell Housing Reassembly Questions

A little would be .026 That would be the side to side movement. However, as I looked at it this morning, I can also push up and down when the bell housing is in the straight up position. What I noticed is that the hinge pin bolts, move a little in the bell housing hole. Is this normal? Does grease take up the rest of the space? Should there be a little play there?
Thanks Roman
If not, do they made slightly oversized bolts, or do I need a new gimbal ring? Thanks again Roman
