I have the entire bell housing off for bellows, gimbal bearing and shift cable replacement. I thought I'd remove the shift shaft lever, as the replacement shift cable (purchased here) kit has a new one.

I understand that OEM used locktite to hold the screw. Manual states "use caution when heating lever to release bond" or something like that. I heated it with propane torch, but not much, didn't want to ruin seal. How much heat does it take to release the locktite? I do have an oxy/act torch set, really don't want to go there.

Does the Sierra bushing kit 18-2622 fit my drive? Drives are so confusing, Mine is an MC-1, I think :joyous:

Thanks in advance, Great Forum,

That serial number, yes, it's an MC1, a 'later' one. (has trim sender and switch on the gimbal ring)...

Before breaking or heating anything, just give trying to unscrew the pin a go. I have found they usually screw out without too much problem.

And yes, that is the right kit.

Thanks for the responses. I ground a screwdriver to fit screw tightly, didn't budge after gentle propane torch applied.

I then drilled two 1/4" holes approximately 180 degrees apart, two wacks with cold chisel & ball peen hammer it broke apart. All is well 😊.

Thanks for confirming on bushing kit #

This forum Rocks. It's helped on my 300 & 850 Mercs also.
