Bellhousing bolt??

1970ish 351 mercrusier Serial # 4222319. most bolts on the bellhousing are 5/8 except 1, no clue? it's not a star bolt maybe its a spline bolt or one of thoes "the only one that has the tool for this is an Authorized Redgestered Merc Service Mechanic ha ha ha." so if the photo loaded, what is? it if I may ask?

Try a 12 point socket either 3/8ths or 7/16ths

The bolt in the picture looks like it came from a Y pipe. Four or these would be used to attach the Y pipe to the Transom. Someone just ttok a little liberty with reusing the bolt. Use the wrench as suggested above and you will not have a problem.

thanks I'll give it a try. so it's not a bolt that was ment to mess with the back yard DIYer. thankfully the engine is sitting on blocks out of the boat.

Ayuh,... 12 point sockets are Not at all uncommon...

It`s the wrong bolt someone used because they lost the correct one

torx is torx, use the 12pt socket, use torx and you will most likly post about the rounded bolt head.

I have 12-point stainless bolts on my race car headers. They allow you small moves with the wrench in a tight spot.

Most wrenches that have a "box" end are also 12-point.
