Bellow Replacement?

I verified today I have a bad bellow in my 94 OMC outdrive (Rubber has cracked allowing small water leak). I think the parts are cheap but any idea on what this is going to run me at the local service shop? What is involved to get to the bellows? Do I have more then 1? Should I replace all of them in the process? Any additional measures I should do to make sure the water doesn't lead to permanent damage?

I value all of your responses, this site is awsome!

Re: Bellow Replacement?

Not familiar with OMC, but I would replace them all. Might as well, since you're there! You're gonna kick yourself when the one you didn't replace cracks.

I'm in the middle of doing that with a Mercrusier. My mechanice is determining if the gimbal is even worth rebuilding.

He quoted me 3 to 4 hours labor + parts if he did the bellows job. ($60/hr shop time)
Now this is on a Merc. Don't know about an OMC.
I hear they're easier, but I could be wrong.

H.

Re: Bellow Replacement?

I would think about replacing the gimble bearing. The clamp on my bellows came off which allowed water to leak through the bearing into the boat. Mine is an 88 omc cobra. I dont remember exactly the cost to repair it.
