Is it possible for water to get in the bellows if it wasn’t a good seal between bell housing and drive or does the rubber o ring that goes inside bell housing keep water out? I want to try and get as much info as I can so if the bellow isn't bad I can move on to looking for the next possible cause.

The bellhousing gasket doesn't do much (if anything?) to keep water out of the bellows. It keeps the shift cavity dry, and I guess maybe keeps water from corroding the outdrive to the bellhousing. But the big o-ring is what keeps the water out of the bellows. So no seal there=water in bellows.

The big o ring was sealed properly. I’ll look the bellow over really good today and see if I find a problem with it.

List of parts that will need to replaced after 'water in the bellows'...

Gimbal bearing
Uni joints
Drive front seal (and replace/repair/speedi-sleeve the yoke)
The bellows itself.

You also have a torn shift cable bellows, so that needs to be replaced too...

Merc do a 'transom seal kit', which contains the bellows (all 3), the gimbal bearing and the gaskets and hose clamps. Part number for Alpha One housing (NOT Gen II) is 30-803097T1...
